Description

Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, also known as Peter and Wendy is a work of children’s fiction by Scottish author James M. Barrie, first published as a book in 1911. It tells the story of Peter Pan, an innocent but sometimes naughty boy who is able to fly and who never grows up. He lives on the island of Neverland, amongst pirates, fairies, and the Lost Boys (boys who fall out of their prams when the nurse is looking the other way and sent to the Neverland if they are not claimed in seven days). Peter takes to visiting the nursery of the Darling family, listening in as Mary Darling tells bedtime stories to her children, Wendy, John, and Michael. One night he is noticed, and after he learns that Wendy knows many stories as well, he invites her to Neverland to become a mother figure to Peter and, the Lost Boys. Once there, they go on many adventures, until Wendy remembers her parents and wants to go home. Captured by Captain Hook, and saved by Peter, the children (along with the Lost Boys) are returned home by a somewhat resentful Peter. He is invited to stay but refuses, afraid they will “catch him and make him a man.”
